Antwoord: Stel, jij wilt een Lightning Bolt spelen. Normaal kost deze . Trinisphere eist echter dat je minimaal 3 mana betaalt en zal de manacost (niet de converted mana cost!) verhogen naar .

Vraag: Kan ik Trinisphere omzeilen?
Antwoord: Nee, dat zal niet lukken zolang je minder dan 3 mana voor een spell hebt betaalt. Als je een bijvoorbeeld Sickening Shoal speelt door een kaart te removen moet je alsnog betalen.

Vraag: Hoe werkt Trinisphere met additional costs en cost reducers en enhancers?
Antwoord: Dit is veel eenvoudiger dan je zou denken als je een simpel model volgt:
Stap 1: Bepaal wat je voor de spell initieel zou betalen, in dit geval als je een Orim’s Chant wilt spelen.
Stap 2: Voeg alle cost enhancers toe die een spell duurder maken (bv. Sphere of Resistance) of additional costs (een extra voor Orim’s Chants kicker). De totale kost is nu .
Stap 3: Haal alle cost reducers er vanaf, zoals een Pearl Medallion. De totale kost is nu .
Stap 4: Kijk of de total cost lager dan 3 is. Zo ja, vul de cost aan met kleurloze mana tot je op de 3 zit. In dit geval zal het dus worden. Kostte je spell al 3 of meer mana, dan doet Trinisphere niets.
Reken dus uit hoeveel een spell kost en pas Trinisphere als ALLERLAATSTE toe.

To determine the total cost of a spell, start with the mana cost or alternative cost you’re paying, add any cost increases, then apply any cost reductions. Finally, apply Trinisphere’s effect if the mana component of the spell’s cost is less than three mana. The converted mana cost of the spell remains unchanged, no matter what the total cost to cast it was.

If Trinisphere leaves the battlefield or becomes tapped or untapped as a cost to cast a spell, this cost is paid after you’ve locked in the total cost.
